Jeremiah Wright and James Carville

At the risk of being theologically incorrect, it's irresistible to point out a stylistic similarity between the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and that fire-and-brimstone preacher of the Church of Clinton, James Carville.

In his Easter sermon on Fox News, Carville thundered over the betrayal by Bill Richardson, a former member of the Clinton flock:

"Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic."

Not quite "God damn America," but apocalyptic enough to make Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson distance himself from Carville's pronouncement as Barack Obama did from his pastor's more extreme expressions. "If I had said it," Wolfson confessed, "I would apologize."

In preaching to the choir, true believers sometimes get carried away, but their passion is undeniable and not negotiable.

The Rev. Carville did not back down in the face of criticism. "I wanted to use a very strong metaphor to make my point," he said. Rev. Wright would no doubt understand.

After Richardson's endorsement, HRC's campaign said it was insignificant - post Texas and California, where it might of mattered.

Carville's bitterness suggests otherwise. They were probably caught off-guard by Richardson's endorsement of Obama.

Richardson's timing was excellent. When others were probably nervous about the Wright fallout, he came through with a robust endorsement.

A cosmopolitan Obama-Richardson ticket would be interesting.

  2. Will this EVER be over?

I've had all I can take of Hillary and bill and her campaign managers, advisors and flunkies.

Everything they say is NEWS, except that it isn't.

Hillary will do anything to win and she still thinks she's got a pretty good shot. She is counting on the short memory of the voters to forget her dirty politicking. She thinks the greatness of her presidency will trump the filth she slung everywhere to get it.
We will have healthcare and we will worship her.

I can't remember not hating her but I guess its only been a couple of months.

  3. Richardson is significant. I found him to be the most pragmatic choice for President among the Democrats back in January and wanted to see a Richardson-Obama ticket. An Obama-Richardson ticket, however backwards in my mind, seems like a surefire way into the White House.
