Elder Statesman of Sleaze

Karl Rove, who smeared John McCain out of the presidency eight years ago, finds his victim's use of those tactics now against Barack Obama a trifle too crude for his taste.

"McCain," Karl Rove said today on Fox News, "has...gone one step too far and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the '100 percent truth' test."

Rove, in effect, is criticizing his own protégés in the McCain campaign, saying "there ought to be an adult who says, 'Do we really need to go that far in this ad? Don't we make our point and won't we get broader acceptance and deny the opposition an opportunity to attack us if we don't include that one little last tweak in the ad?'"

Amid the talk about pigs and lipstick, Rove's remarks call to mind the old saying about thrift--using every porker part but the squeal. As a paid pundit for Fox, Rove has even found a way to profit from that.

McCain is running the sleaziest campaign since when Bush attacked McCain in 2000; and, showing how he sold out to continue the ‘Bush legacy of lying for the Presidency’, by McCain standing by completely debunked lies on national TV’s “The View” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/12/mccain-grilled-on-the-vie_n_125972.html).

It’s clear that John McCain would rather lose his integrity than lose an election!

McCain lies like ‘the same old Bush!’

McCain = Bush = McBush!

First, Rove's comment was that both candidates have taken their ads one step too far. Amazing how the press turns that into McCain has gone too far. Second, enough with the whining. Obama's messages of "more of the same", "Bush-McCain", McCain gave tax breaks to big oil (he gave tax breaks to ALL companies), are as sleazy and deceptive as they come.

It's interesting how the dems continually slam Carl Rove, until his statements reinforce their vitriol for the republicans. I don't care what the media says, if you connect the dots, it's obvious that Obama's lipstick/pig comment, which came just days after Palin scored points with her pitbulll/lipstick statement, was an ugly sexist response from Obama. Now, Obama is crying that he was misinterpreted, while the media, once again assists him in playing the victim. The deck has been so stacked in favor of Obama, whether it's the media's refusal to vet Obama in the first place, to giving Obama free rides with Wright, Farrakhan, Rezko, Ayers, etc.. The media, as well as shows like The View, are continuing to show extreme bias against Senator John McCain, while kissing Obama's ass.

I don't think it's fair to simply echo the term, media, any more. There are more than enough options for everybody. Don't like Fox, go to MSNBC. Don't like the Washington Post, pick up the Washington Times. Don't like Townhall.com, check out the Huff Po. I just wish that we could have more unbiased sources, in general.

It is time the obfuscation stops and the debates center on the social, economic and political problems we face and possible solutions offered by the candidates.

Whether Palin is the lipstick or the diversion does not matter any more than if Cindy McCain Can't Understand Normal Thinking, as her husband implied.

What are the candidates offering specifically to get the country back into working order?

They're certainly not addressing the debt, deficit, social security, etc.. Nobody is. Everybody is just trying to get elected, for Christ!
