In a time when happy endings seem unattainable, here is a story that has one.
Five years ago, after ten years of marriage, Chip and Cindy Altemos of South Whitehall Township, Pa. decided to divorce. When they first married, Cindy was a phlebotomist who worked with renal patients. She knew her husband would eventually need a kidney transplant because he had had juvenile diabetes, and she promised to be his donor.
They went their separate ways until February when Chip needed that new kidney. Cindy kept her promise, and the transplant brought them back together.
"There was no way I could walk around with two kidneys and he had none," Cindy says.
For true love, romantic novels tell you to follow your heart, but other organs may work just as well.
