Talk about cheating, today's Washington infamy centers on the State Department's low-balling of the crowds protesting our presence in Iraq with the help of cropped photos.
They didn't invent that. Half a century ago, Joe McCarthy and Roy Cohn were publicly nailed for doctoring a picture of Cohn's friend David Schine to make it appear that he and the Secretary of the Army were on intimate terms.
The interchange quoted by Time Magazine has a little fillip--some quaint snickering about a then-forbidden subject, the gayness of McCarthy's gang.
